How we install it

Surface prep matters more than the resin.

01

Base inspection

We check for cracks, settlement and drainage. Resin needs a stable base — anything moving will telegraph through.

02

Base prep

New base if needed (150mm Type 1 + binder course), or repair + clean an existing sound base.

03

Edging

Concrete-haunched edge restraints define the perimeter and stop the resin layer migrating.

04

Mixing

UV-stable two-part resin mixed on-site with kiln-dried aggregate in a forced-action paddle mixer.

05

Trowelling

Hand-trowelled in 15–18mm layer at consistent depth. We work fast — pot life of mixed resin is ~30 minutes.

06

Curing

Drives are walk-on after 6 hours and car-ready after 24 hours, depending on temperature.

What affects the price

Honest pricing, with the variables explained.

Base condition

An existing sound tarmac base can be overlaid for ~30% less than a full dig. Cracked bases need to be removed.

Aggregate choice

Standard blends start at £120/m². Premium and custom blends with rarer aggregates can run £150–£180/m².

Area & thickness

Driveways get a 16–18mm layer; patios can go 12–15mm. Bigger areas spread the call-out cost so per-m² rate drops slightly.

Edging style

Hidden edging is cheapest; decorative kerbs or block-paved borders add £20–£40/linear m.

Manholes & obstacles

Recessed manhole covers at £200 each; circular trees in the drive add cutting time.

Access

Resin must reach site quickly while pot life is good — tight access can mean smaller batches and slower laying.

Resin FAQs

The questions people ask.

What is resin bound paving?
Resin bound is a permeable surface made by mixing UV-stable resin with kiln-dried aggregate, then trowelling it onto a prepared sub-base. The result is a smooth, jointless, hard-wearing finish that water passes straight through — so it's SuDS-compliant and doesn't pool.
How much does a resin bound driveway cost?
Resin bound driveways cost £120–£170 per m² installed in Oxfordshire and Berkshire. A 40m² two-car driveway typically lands between £6,500 and £9,500 including base preparation, edging and the resin layer.
Is resin bound or resin bonded better?
Resin bound is almost always the right choice for driveways. It's permeable (so SuDS-compliant), smoother, lasts longer, and doesn't shed loose stones. Resin bonded is a thin layer of stones scattered over wet resin — looks similar but isn't permeable and weathers faster.
How long does resin bound last?
A properly installed resin bound driveway with a sound sub-base lasts 15–25 years. UV-stable resin is essential — cheaper non-UV resin will yellow within 2–3 years. We only use UV-stable formulations from reputable manufacturers.
Can resin be laid over my existing driveway?
Yes — if the existing surface is sound tarmac or concrete and well-drained, we can overlay with a 15–20mm resin bound layer. This saves significantly on excavation. We always inspect first; soft or cracked bases need replacing.
Is resin bound slippery when wet?
No — the aggregate gives resin bound a naturally textured finish with excellent grip. It tends to be safer than smooth tarmac or wet block paving. We can specify a slightly larger aggregate grade for sloped drives if grip is a concern.
